Mental Health Awareness Week takes place on the 13th – 19th May this year and it is hosted by the Mental Health Foundation. Mental Health is being talked about a lot more which is great. However, there still is a long way to go. Especially within the workplace where people tend to mask their true feelings.
Approximately, 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. We don’t just want to ignore this statistic, that’s why we have come up with 5 top tips on how you can improve your mental wellbeing within your workplace.
Exercising is a great way to destress as it releases hormones that make you feel good. It is important to make the most of your lunch break and get away from your desk. Instead, enjoy some fresh air and have that time to yourself to relax and unwind.
Put some feel-good tunes on and enjoy! Not only does music have a positive impact on your overall mood but the right music can also improve your overall productivity by keeping your mind focused.
Having a work-life balance is crucial as it reduces stress and helps maintain a healthy work environment. Make time to enjoy yourself outside work and reduce the risk of feeling burnout. A healthy work-life balance improves your mental health and increases productivity.
Eating well does not just benefit our physical health. It also has a large impact on our mental health too. That’s why it is so important to eat the right type of food to fuel your body with good energy. Make sure you keep hydrated throughout your working day by drinking plenty of water which will help keep those concentration levels up and reduce the risk of headaches and feeling fatigued.
We want to spread the message this mental health awareness week that it is okay to talk about your mental wellbeing. You shouldn’t have to filter your feelings. If you are feeling stressed or anxious at work, ask for help. Everyone needs a hand from time to time. Whatever the issue, be honest with your manager or a colleague. Try not to bottle it up. Speak up and create a working environment where you can be open, honest and share positivity together.
